A study published in the journal Nutrient found that drinking about 28 grams of elderberry juice per day for a week could change the microbes living in the gut and improve the body’s ability to tolerate glucose and fat oxidation.
This purple berry is found on the elder tree native to Europe. This tree is widely used for medicinal purposes and for the immune system. Researchers from Washington State University in the US said that other benefits of this fruit have not been properly understood.
“The elderberry is under-appreciated commercially and nutritionally,” said study co-author Patrick Solverson. We are now beginning to understand its role in human health, and the results are very interesting.
