Tea or coffee is consumed daily by millions of people worldwide and may play a protective role against certain cancers.
A new study published in the American Cancer Society’s Cancer journal shows that these two popular drinks reduce the risk of head and neck cancer, which accounts for 6 percent of all cancers worldwide.
Researchers analyzed data from 14 international studies involving nearly 25,000 participants. Participants provided information on daily, weekly, monthly or yearly coffee or tea intake with which researchers analyzed their health outcomes.
The results showed that drinking more than four cups of coffee per day reduced the overall risk of head and neck cancer by 17%.
On the other hand, drinking more than one cup of tea per day increases the risk of laryngeal cancer by 38%.
